CLASSES START

              AUGUST 23, 2010

                           SEE YOU THEN

Welcome to the

  St. James/Seton Media Center Website

Welcome to all of our new and old friends of SJS

School!! My name is Mrs. Nan Forman. I am the

Media Specialist (teacher/librarian) at SJS. Mrs. Cheri

Gimenez, our library assistant, and I are anxious to

welcome you to our Media Center. If you have never

visited us, here is a quick peak at our beautiful facility!

There is a true Children’s reading area -- complete with a

rocking chair, puppets and a small theater, plus many hands-

on story book activities, fluffy pillows, and - of course - great

books to read! The younger grades will try their hands at

puppetry and story telling, which will emphasize memory and

sequence of events skills.

We also have a separate section for young adults as well as

a complete section dedicated to our Accelerated Reader

books.

There are 4 computers available for students to locate

books in our library. We also have a new Media

Computer Lab with 30  new laptop computers for AR

quizzes and classroom research projects. The lab will

help to reinforce the unit on how to use the internet for

research. We have already had many classes visit the

lab for class projects!

At present, we have approximately 28,000 books in

our library (over 17,000 have AR quizzes!) – and our

collection is continuing to grow.

Library classes are held throughout each day. The

students can look forward to a wonderful year of

reading, learning, and growing. Besides reinforcing

library skills, we hope to expand the students’ reading

interests to include different genres.

Just another day in the Media Center!
